July is the beginning of the COROA fiscal year, time for membership renewal. This is a good time to reexamine all that we’re getting from membership. This year a reevaluation seems particularly appropriate as the economy shows signs of finally beginning its recovery. Paramount for me has been the networking and educational support I have received over my last 30 plus years as a member. Meetings have kept me aware of the legal climate and changes around the state, and around the nation. When I first joined there was no landlord-tenant law at all. Now there are subtle changes every few years that are critical to running my business. Our ORHA lobbyist in Salem keeps us abreast of the changes to the Oregon law, and COROA gets the word out through our meetings and the newsletter.
Or, I could say that having the right forms readily available has been equally important to running my rentals smoothly. Can you imagine trying to write your own, and keeping it consistent with Oregon law? As a Hotline responder, I’ve seen what a disaster that can be.
July is also the beginning of the new COROA board. At the last board meeting the board members elected at the April Annual Meeting chose who would fill most of the offices. Brad Warkentin has graciously agreed to continue as treasurer. And, the treasury is in great shape, by the way. Tom Ratcliffe will be our new secretary, and I will continue as vice-president. We are still discussing who will be president. All of the board members have complicated lives, making it difficult to commit the necessary time to being president.
Thanks for your continued membership.
Linda Frost
Vice President
